Ikasi gym was started by SA gold medallist Tumi Masite under the direction and mentorship of former Alexandra heavy weight lifters. He started the gym whilst being trained by Reg Park (3 times Mr. Universe winner one of the world’s greatest muscle man and famous for having trained the action star and former senate Arnold Schwarzenegger).
Given the opportunity to be trained by the best in the business Tumi Masite didn’t waste the time nor opportunity as he put himself to work and achieve all the greatest results that could be envisage by anyone who have been trained by Mr. Reg Park.
Ikasi gym was established in Alexandra where Reg would train Tumi together with other Alexandra Ikasi gym members. The team also got exposed to professional training environment as they prepared for various championship competitions. It wasn’t soon when Sir. Richard Branson heard of this marvellous initiative and just recently having visited South Africa (having established Cell C and Virgin Active) he decided to participate by reaching out to help and dream to occur for Tumi together with his hopefuls of Alexandra.
The donation and involvement by Virgin Active Chairman Sir Richard Branson helped Ikasi be formally established in Alexandra. As community members heard and read the story in newspapers the gym became famous for what it is today “A multi operational fitness centre”. The gym started attracting other fitness activities which were never there.
